Abstract - After reviewing the basic characteristics and error sources of the regulated-cascode current copier, current and voltage margins are evaluated for the saturation operation of the copier, the one that seems better from a performance point of view. From the calculation of the constraints, several results are obtained: there exists a range of values for the cascode transistor b parameter that are not allowed, and it must be larger or smaller than the copier transistor, but not similar; as expected, for short length channels the currents and voltages in the saturation-triode border change significantly from the SPICE simulation; comparative curves display show the differences as a function of channel length. From the simulation results of a specific CMOS technology, from a channel length of 3 micron error is under reasonable values.
